Kenwood is now showing a new GPS navigation system on their website called DNX7120 and the older 7100 is no longer there.



The DNX7120 has a 6.95″ (they’re honest about not being 7″ ) LCD touchscreen and has the same GUI as Garmin. The maps include United States, Canada and Puerto Rico and as far as entertainment you’ve the ability to control your iPod or other portable music player. You can get the additional KCA-iP300 cable and for fastest control of iPod audio and video files. In addition DNX7120 even includes two relay control outputs for touchscreen control of external devices like garage doors, security gates, trunk release, and more.

Other features include text to speech, XM Traffic and Weather support, satellite radio support, and it comes with a remote control.

Becker announced an extra wide GPS navigation system at IFA 2007 in Berlin. Called Becker Traffic Assist 7928 the device has a 4.8″ touch screen - which is unusual for a sat nav system.

Inside Becker 7928 you’ll find a 400 MHz-processor and a SiRF Star III chipset which is normal. However, the new device has 128MB of RAM which is twice what other manufacturers offer. Of course a device named ‘traffic assist’ also features RDS/TMC receiver to get live traffic information and thanks to the bluetooth feature you can take calls handsfree provided you have a bluetooth enabled phone.

Becker comes with Navteq maps that cover 37 European countries - which fits on a 2 GB SD card, which also contains some 3D renderings of famous landmarks in some select countries

Route66 introduced a new wide screen GPS navigation system recently called the Route66 MAXI. Route66 MAXI is a very ‘European’ sat nav device - supporting 14 languages and maps for all of Western and Northern Europe.

Route66 MAXI has a nice set of features such as high-def maps, built-in TMC traffic receiver, lane assist, and MP3 player. There are a few freebies too - for example free safety camera alerts and free map updates until the end of 2008. With an optional wireless car kit you can get handsfree calling, FM stereo transmitter, auto-charge and auto-switch day and night sensor.

You can get your hands on the new Route66 MAXI for €300.

Navman introduced is Navman S70. Navman S70 will come with maps of Western Europe which covers over 6 million miles of streets throughout 21 European countries.

It is also traffic information compatible which will attempt to keep you out of traffic jams. Like other mid to high end GPS navigation system Navman S70 also offers bluetooth connectivity in case you have plans for pairing up your phone with your sat nav device.

Navman S70 has a 4.3″ touchscreen, offers a free trial for safety camera locations, and has the ability to navigate to pictures using NavPix software. However S70 lacks an onboard digital camera. It will soon start shipping and will cost £200.

The same day TomTom announced their new GO 720, they also unveiled the new TomTom GO 520, which is the successor of the older GO 510. GO 520 will only be available in Europe offering only local maps - depending on where you buy it from.

GO 520 will also make speech recognition available in certain European countries allowing the users to speak the address they want to go to instead of trying to typing it in.

"TMC Plus" sammelt über ein Sensorennetz Verkehrsdaten und überträgt sie an geeignete Navigationsgeräte. 2008 soll der Dienst starten.

Die Asfinag geht unter die Verkehrsfunker, wenn auch nicht auf herkömmlichem Weg: Künftig sollen mit der Technologie TMC ("Traffic Message Channel") Daten, die von den Sensoren des Straßenbetreibers auf Autobahnen und Schnellstraßen gewonnen werden, in geeignete Navigationsgeräte gespielt.

Starten soll der Service mit dem Namen "TMC Plus" im zweiten Quartal 2008, gab die Asfinag Verkehrstelematik GmbH am Montag bekannt. Ab Juni sind die Verkehrsinfos der Asfinag außerdem im Internet abrufbar.

Passende Navigationsgeräte noch nicht verfügbar

Voraussetzung für die Nutzung des neuen Services sind geeignete Navigationsgeräte, die den verschlüsselten Datenstrom der Asfinag empfangen können. Diese werden über das Ukw-Radiosignal übermittelt und sind sozusagen ein Teil des bereits seit längerem eingesetzten Datendienstes RDS.
Die Geräte sind derzeit noch nicht am österreichischen Markt verfügbar, allerdings nur deshalb, weil es bisher keinen entsprechenden Dienst gab. In Deutschland, wo der Service den Namen "TMCpro" trägt, sind die entsprechenden Apparate bereits verbreitet, so die Asfinag.

Sensorennetz sammlet Verkehrsdaten

Die Grundlage für den neuen Dienst bilden die flächendeckenden Sensoren auf Autobahnen und Schnellstraßen. Zumindest zwischen jeder Anschlussstelle hat die Asfinag einen Sensorquerschnitt eingebaut, der Durchschnittsgeschwindigkeit und Verkehrsdichte prüft.

Auch Baustellen und Wetterlage werden mit in Betracht gezogen. Daraus ergeben sich durch computerisierte Hochrechnungen Verkehrsinformationen für das hochrangige Verkehrsnetz, das per "TMC Plus" direkt in die entsprechend ausgerüsteten Autos gefunkt werden wird.

Preis ist noch offen

Wie viel das System für den Endnutzer kosten wird, ist laut Asfinag noch offen. Angedacht wird unter anderem eine einmalige Gebühr im Rahmen der Anschaffung des Gerätes.

Bevor die digitalen Verkehrsinfos mobil werden und im Auto empfangen werden können, sind sie davor schon einmal im Internet abrufbar: Ab Juni 2007 wird über die Asfinag-Homepage der flächendeckende Autobahn- und Schnellstraßenstatus vom Computer aus abrufbar sein. Die Bosch-Tochtergesellschaft Blaupunkt, Hildesheim, und der japanische Unterhaltungselektronik-Konzern Kenwood Corporation, Tokyo, planen eine Partnerschaft auf dem Gebiet der Portable Navigation Devices (PND). Mit der Unterzeichnung eines Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) starten die beiden Unternehmen jetzt ihre Zusammenarbeit bei portablen Navigationsgeräten. Blaupunkt und Kenwood sind führende Anbieter von Car Audio- und Car Multimedia-Systemen. Die Bündelung von Kompetenzen hat das Ziel, einfach bedienbare Navigationsgeräte mit innovativen und attraktiven Ausstattungsmerkmalen für
regional unterschiedliche Märkte zu entwickeln.

Die gemeinsam konzipierten Geräte werden im stark wachsenden Segment der mobilen Navigation von 2008 an jeweils eigenständig von beiden Partnern angeboten. Mit dieser Kooperation wollen Blaupunkt und Kenwood ihre Kompetenz als Anbieter portabler Navigationssysteme weiter ausbauen. Blaupunkt, ein Unternehmen der Bosch-Gruppe, ist ein international bedeutender Hersteller von Fahrer-Informationssystemen, Autoradios, Autolautsprechern und Fahrzeugantennen. Blaupunkt hat seinen Sitz in Hildesheim und unterhält weitere Standorte in Portugal, Ungarn, Tunesien und Malaysia. Medion just revealed 6 new PNDs (personal navigation device) : the PNA 455L and the PNA 460, 460L, 465, 470 and 470L all from the same series.

All these PND use version 2 of the GoPal navigation software, in version AE for the PNA 460 and in version EP for the PNA 465. These two versions integrates 3D maps, the radars preloaded as well as warning signal POIs, the predictive capture of the address as well as the speed limits. The version EP integrates in more the voice synthesis of the street names. Another innovation, the presence of guides of city, City Guides, giving tourist information for 50 towns of Europe.

They are provided with Navteq maps the second quarter 2006. The PNA 455L, which we mentioned already has the following featues:
